For All Autolite® Products
Information Regarding Manufacturers' Warranties
Original equipment manufacturers' warranties remain in effect when Autolite® products are installed and maintained in accordance with the service intervals recommended by the original equipment manufacturer. This warranty may be validated at Honeywell Consumer Products Group or at any authorized distributor.
Consumers are sometimes told by an automobile dealer's service department or mechanic that a brand of replacement product cannot be used in the consumer's vehicle during the warranty period. The claim is made that use of the brand will "void the warranty," with the statement or implication that only the original equipment branded products may be used. This, of course, tends to cast doubt on the quality of the replacement product.
That claim is simply not true. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and general principles of the Federal Trade Commission act, a manufacturer may not require the use of any branded product (or any other article) unless the manufacturer provides the item free of charge under the terms of the warranty.
So if the consumer is told that only the original equipment product will not void the warranty, he should request that the OE product be supplied free of charge. If he is charged for the product, the manufacturer or dealer will be violating the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act or other applicable law.
It should be noted that the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act applies only to consumer products, and not to businesses such as fleets or government agencies.
Consumer Warranty for Autolite® Products $15.00 and under (retail price)
For those Autolite® products that cost $15.00 or less and have a warranty on their packaging, Honeywell Consumer Products Group, a division of Honeywell International Inc., warrants them against defects in materials and/or workmanship during the period of time listed on the packaging from date of purchase (see * for products with warranty period not listed on packaging). In the case of damage to a motor directly attributable to a failure of a properly installed Autolite® product that is the correct application for the vehicle, Honeywell Consumer Products Group will pay for the repair to a condition equivalent to that which existed before the failure. Honeywell Consumer Products Group is not responsible for any other damage or loss, and does not cover any type of losses or damages caused by incorrect installation, errors in application or modification of the product or engine. LIMITED WARRANTY
For Autolite® products that cost more than $15.00 (retail price)
Those Autolite® products that cost more than $15.00 and have a warranty on their packaging are warranted to the purchaser for the period of time listed on the packaging from the date of purchase (see ** for product with warranty period not listed on packaging) against defects in materials and workmanship by Honeywell Consumer Products Group ("CPG"), a division of Honeywell International Inc.
What Warranty Does Not Cover:
- CPG will not provide any warranty service if its products are not installed properly (including errors in application) and maintained in accordance with service intervals recommended by the original equipment manufacturer.
- CPG will not provide any warranty service if the product shows evidence that it has been tampered with, misused, abused or altered.
- CPG MAKES NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, FOR ITS SPARK PLUGS, AND SPECIFICIALLY DISCLAIMS THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE IF ITS PRODUCTS ARE USED FOR RACING, CUSTOM OR MODIFIED APPLICATIONS, INSTALLED IMPROPERLY, USED IN EQUIPMENT OTHER THAN THOSE LISTED FOR THE PRODUCT, OR NOT SERVICED AT RECOMMENDED INTERVALS. Under no circumstances is CPG responsible for direct, incidental, special or consequential damages resulting from such uses of its products.
- CPG IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES RESULTING FROM ANY USES OF ITS PRODUCTS. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental, special or consequential damages, so the above exclusion or limitation may not apply to you.
Your Rights Under Implied Warranties and State Law: THIS LIMITED WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER EXPRESSED WARRANTIES, OBLIGATIONS OR LIABILITIES. CPG LIMITS THE DURATION OF ANY WARRANTY IMPLIED BY STATE LAW, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE TO A PERIOD OF FIVE YEARS FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
